The Atlantic Zone took to the island for the second annual Adidas Women’s Pro-Am. As women’s participation in golf continues to rise each year, it comes as no surprise that the event has grown by four teams since last year.
Over two days, 17 PGA Atlantic Professionals and 68 female amateurs set out to the Mill River Golf Course to compete for the title. To start the event off, our friends at Adidas Golf gifted each amateur a pair of Adidas Zoysia Golf shoes. We couldn’t be more thankful for the support they’ve shown to this event.
Adding to the excitement, LPGA Tour winner and Canadian Golf Hall of Famer, Lorie Kane, was in attendance to share her best practices for pre-round warm-up and, of course, the short game with the players. This was later followed by a fireside chat where Lorie spoke about what life on tour was like and much more.
This wouldn’t have been possible without the work that Sean Joyce, ‘Class A’ Director of Golf at the Mill River Resort, put in to make the event as great as it was.
The course conditions couldn’t have been better for the players, with clear skies each day.
Team Carlaw dominated both days with 90 Stableford points after Round 1 and 87 in the final round for a total of 177. PGA Professional Chris Carlaw (Links at Brunello) brought Vanessa Pulley, Breanna Lloy, Jessica Theriault, and Deanna Harnish to the event, and we must say, they pulled up in style.
We can’t say for certain, but teams who match together play better together, and Team Carlaw has the scores to prove it!
For the individual professional competition, Brett Wilson (West Hills Golf Club) and Adam Chamberlain (Gowan Brae GC) put up a great performance in Round 1, finishing with 37 Stableford points each.
In the end, it was the defending champion, Brett Wilson, who came out on top after two rounds with 70 points to secure the win.
It’s hard to believe this event was non-existent just three years ago, as it’s now a staple in the Atlantic region's tournament schedule. The success of the event speaks to the contributions made by our partner, Adidas Golf, and host, the Mill River Resort.
It’s safe to say that we’re already excited for next year!
