All the stars aligned for the 10th annual Cobra Puma PGA Atlantic Spring Pro-Am. Despite a rainy arrival day, the sun shone brightly from the next morning through day one and two of the tournament.
As mentioned, many times before, this event would not have been a success without the invaluable support of our wonderful host, Cabot Cape Breton, and our amazing partner, Cobra Puma Golf. Their contributions and dedication have been instrumental in making this event a first-class experience. We are incredibly grateful for their partnership.
Round one took place at Cabot Links, with players starting at 8 AM for the shotgun start. Live scoring, powered by Golf Genius, allowed people to follow the action from anywhere.
Bradford Curren (Glen Arbour), Cody Scott (Ashburn), and Gordie Smith (Ashburn) finished round one tied for first at +2 over par. Trevor Giggey (Fox Meadow) followed closely at +3 over par.
Team Scott (Professional, Cody Scott, Gary Scott, Jamie Sweet, and Dale Nix) led after round one with -7. Team Curren (Professional, Bradford Curren, Douglas Curren, Ben Curren, and Breanna Curren) was close behind with -5.
To encourage amateurs to ‘Play Boldly,’ CPG designated a challenge hole during each round with a $500 gift card for bold play. Players had the chance to win a prize by getting a true birdie on the designated hole or winning the longest drive either day.
The birdie challenge winners for round one were:
- Jamie Sweet (Team Scott)
- Alex Richard (Team Tremblay)
- Paul Clarke (Team Debay)
Jamie Sweet also won the longest drive for Hole #12.
The Cobra Puma ‘Demo Experience’ had a great turnout as the teams came to check out the new ‘DARK SPEED’ collection. Douglas Curren (Team Curren) won the ‘Longest Putt’ challenge, and Bob McLaughlin (Team Porter) won himself a new DARK SPEED driver by increasing his ball speed by 9MPH.
Players showed up for Round Two at Cabot Cliffs for another 8 AM shotgun start. The defending champions, Team Scott, took home the title once again with an astounding round two finish of –21. The overall score for the week was 133-123, resulting in a sizzling 26 under, two-day total.
Another familiar name from last year took home the Individual Professional title: Bradford Curren finished the tournament even par, shooting 72-70. Brett Wilson (West Hills) put up a good fight for the title, coming in hot at –5 in round two for an overall 76-67 finish.
To add to the ways in which players had a chance to win, a ‘Pro-Pro-Pro Blind Draw Best Ball’ was drawn after round one. Bradford Curren (Glen Arbour), Dan Fraser (Chester), and Blehr MacKinlay (Oakfield) came out on top at the end of round two with 85 Stableford points, followed by Nick Peters (Belvedere), Brett Wilson (West Hills), and Jordan Milne (KenWo) at 83 points.
An impressive list of thirteen amateurs birdied Hole #17, earning themselves a nice shopping spree at CPG. The winners for the ‘Play Boldly’ challenge was:
- Breanna Curren (Team Curren)
- Dax Philips (Team Billings)
- Neil Campbell (Team Larisey)
- Kendrick Douglass (Team Larisey)
- Corey McMinniman (Team Wilson)
- Scott Cowan (Team Landine)
- Bobby Pederson (Team Balser)
- Simon Taylor (Team Balser)
- David Maloney (Team Smith)
- Brad Ross (Team Noseworthy)
- Matt Rogers (Team McKay)
- Sasho MacKenzie (Team Duncan)
- Mike Landry (Team Fraser).
A special shout-out goes to Ian Dugas (Team Milne), who scored not a birdie but an eagle on the ‘Play Boldly’ challenge hole.
The longest drive on Hole #1 went to Andy LePage of Team Billings.
Congratulations to all the players for their performance at the Cobra Puma Spring Pro-Am. It was an amazing couple of days of golf!
